ELECTRONIC AND APPLIANCES RECYCLING DAY

The Morton Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Tazewell County Health
Department, Recycling for Illinois Inc. and Wal-Mart of Morton will hold an America Recycles Day Collection. The event will provide an opportunity for Morton and the surrounding communities to reduce electronic waste by disposing of unwanted appliances, computer equipment, phones and other electronic items in a manner that protects the environment and conserves resources.

There will be minimal fees assessed for recycling of some items because they contain
hazardous materials. The fee for appliances such as refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners is $5.00 each because they contain Freon. Computer monitors will also cost $5.00 because they contain lead.
Fees for televisions depend on the size of the unit, but all televisions contain lead and should be disposed of properly. Televisions that are 13 inches to 19 inches will cost $15.00 to recycle and sets that are 25 inches or console will be $20.00.

Examples of items that can be recycled for free are washers, dryers, dishwashers, stoves,
computers, printers, scanners, modems, hard drives, photocopiers, fax machines, phones, keyboards, computer cables, stereos, VCRs and most small appliances. Anything that runs on electricity or batteries will be accepted.

The America Recycles Day event is open to both residents and businesses. Tax deductible
donation forms will be available.
