“Blue Can Recycle Group”
The City of Moline in partnership with the “Blue Can Recycle Group” challenges residents while promoting national America Recycles Day.
On November 15th Moline a local leader on recycling issues will celebrate America Recycles Day announcing it has collected more than 3 million pounds of recyclables since starting single stream curbside recycling program this past March.
In addition Moline joins the “Blue Can Recycle Group” calling on residents to use canvas bags for collecting groceries when shopping.
Sue Ratkiewicz a Blue Can Group Member “The canvas bags are reusable, handy, do not tear and available at most shopping centers. Reusable is one of the primary tenants of recycling”.
Martin Davis of Martin Davis Recycling Inc “many of the plastic bags are not made from recyclable plastic materials and they cause recyclable materials handlers difficulties because they plug up recyclable materials processing machinery”.
Doug House Municipal Services General Manager “The plastic bags are a source of litter throughout the local communities and country side they pollute our streams and rivers and have also been found to endanger wildlife.”
The group notes that canvas bags are offered for sale at nearly all local grocery stores.
