2007 Outstanding High School Environmental Club Awards

The Illinois Recycling Association (IRA) seeks nominations for The Outstanding High School Ecology Club Awards. A $500 stipend will be awarded to recognize two high school environmental clubs that have exhibited outstanding performance in recycling and other environmental causes.

The Awards will be presented by an IRA Board member at each winning school, preferably during an end-of-year awards assembly.

The required written summary of accomplishments should be in a narrative format with each section heading as outlined below, and must contain the following information in the order listed:

BACKGROUND: This section should contain general information about the school, including population of the school, number of students active in the club, and any other pertinent background information.

RECYCLING PROJECTS: This section should discuss, in detail, the recycling programs currently being implemented in the school. List all materials collected, the means and methods of collection, and volumes collected during the school year.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS: This section should discuss any other environmental projects the club is involved with in detail. Include any special activities to celebrate Earth Day or America Recycles Day.

PLANS FOR $500 AWARD STIPEND: The $500 stipend must be spent on an activity or purchase that promotes recycling and environmental awareness. This section should discuss the plans for the award.

Please include the following when submitting one (1) original of the Outstanding High School Ecology Club Awards nomination packet:

• completed nomination form (reverse page)
• written summary of the accomplishments/efforts for which the nomination is made as outlined above
• any support materials to assist the Awards Committee in evaluating the nomination
• letters of support from School Principal and other relevant parties
• one or two relevant photographs (preferably digital on disk) of the individual or organization being nominated, with their products, or performing activities or services
